Skinny Bitches Get Moving
Categories: Fitness
Skinny bitches Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin are back. Well they never really went away since their first book "Skinny Bitch" hit the New York Times Best Seller list in 2005, earning lots of fans, and plenty of detractors. Although the original book is ultimately a tough-love, vegan manifesto -- their most recent workout DVD "Skinny Bitch Booty Bounce" is surprisingly soft around the edges. More on that later.
That's Fit recently spoke with the skinny bitches about the jump from telling us what to put in our mouths to showing us how to get moving.
That's Fit: First of all, what did you both have for breakfast?
Kim: Oatmeal with banana and strawberry.
Rory: I had a grapefruit and orange and a banana and raw cereal with rice milk.
That's Fit: What made you decide to do workout videos?
Rory: It was all from the e-mails we were getting. We were so inspired how the book had changed people's lives. We felt like, OK, we have them now. We have them eating well. Now we have to get them off their asses. We have to make it easy for people who don't work out.
Kim: It's so much fun and it's like the fantasy of you doing your own music video.
That's Fit: What sort of activities do you do when you're not making DVDs and writing books?
Rory: I go to the gym, or I go hiking with my dog, or softball, or trapeze school, and flag football.
Kim:I have a two-year-old. We live in Santa Monica, so we walk a lot and go to the beach every afternoon, play soccer on the beach. So I'm always walking. Whenever I get a chance, I do yoga.
That's Fit: What was it like to make a workout routine?
Kim: It was scary and we laughed at me a lot -- and it was so much fun. And I look ridiculous cause I can't dance.
Rory: Not caring how you look is really liberating. When we both sat down, we were both in a state of panic, like "are we gonna do this, we're gonna look like jackasses." But we said, "we're gonna have fun and it's not important." And that was a really important lesson. We limit our own life experiences because we don't want to look stupid, and that's too bad.
Rory is right, working up a sweat and trying new things should be fun. The problem with "Skinny Bitch Booty Bounce," however, is that I'm not having fun. I don't want constant chatter telling me how much fun it is. I want to sweat.
The video includes a quasi-ballet warm up, followed by a retro dance party and then a hip-hop styled segment. First there is a long introduction, no sweating there. Then there's the complete lack of cueing coupled with quick changes between the myriad of 70s dance moves that left me slightly dazed, but not sweaty. The hip-hop part was no better on getting me perspiring, or giving me cues.
It was surprising coming from the pair who, love them or hate them, are known for a no-nonsense, sassy approach. Ultimately, it was sort of like Sweatin' to the Oldies, Skinny Bitch style, but I'm not sure I'd call it a workout. It's better than sitting on the couch, but when I was done, I went for a run and had some fun.

Wow..with so many women with eating disorders and low self esteem here comes a book that will do more damage. Women have already been fooled by a weird fashion industry to hate there curves. They would like grow women to look like 12 year old boys.. I WONDER WHY?
Also I work with women who are the majority of the 18 million Americans on anti-depressants which puts weight on you that does not come off. We teach them natural ways to fight their depression http://suiciderateup.wordpress.com
We will continue to fight for women to love themselves and NOT WANT TO BE A SKINNY BITCH
