Banish Blisters From Your Workout

Raise your hand if you've been caught a mile or more from home, a monster blister forming on your heel. I've been there. A bad blister can stop a good run or walk in its tracks. And if you're stuck away from home without help, it can be a long, excruciating hike back. The best way to deal with blisters is to prevent them in the first place.
- Buy a shoe that fits. Choose a shoe with a proper width and that leaves one finger width between the end of your toe and the end of the shoe.
- Give new shoes a break. A break-in, that is. Ease your new shoes into your routine slowly.
- Avoid cotton socks. Instead, choose socks made of a wicking fabric, which will keep your feet dry.
- If you're prone to blisters, cover hot spots with moleskin or an anti-blister lubricant.
- Bring a blister kit on your walk with you, and treat at the first sign of pain.
Friction happens, even to the best of us. But with a little care and prevention, blisters don't have to sideline you from your workout.
