YouBar: Build Your Own Trail Mix

I detest trail mix miners. Friends who dig into your trail mix and pick out only the tidbits they like. Now I can send them to YouBar, where they can build their own custom trail mix, nutrition bars or shakes, and keep their finicky selves out of my stash. I love it. So when YouBar offered That's Fit a chance to build their very own trail mix, this granola girl jumped at the chance. I prefer hiking boots over my Sauconys any day.
YouBar's ordering process was simple -- I headed into Mix-a-Trail Mix, chose favorite mix-ins across Nuts, Dried Fruit, Seeds, Crunchy Grains and Tasty Additions, then named it. Of couse, I went with That's Fit Granola Girl. A cool online calculator live-tallys nutritional stats as you go, so I revised my concoction to keep each 45 gram serving under 200 calories. YouBar then whips up your order and ships for next week's fitventure. I had my box of 13 individually-labeled trail mix packets in less than week ($25.87 plus shipping).
Now onto taste. I had forgotten what super-healthy trail mix tastes like. YouBar includes mostly organic ingredients without artificial colors, flavors or chemical preservatives. If you're accustomed to M&M-laden trail mix from Sam's Club, heavily dosed with sweet n' salt, your tastebuds are in for a surprise. This was much lighter in taste and texture, but after a couple packs, I appreciated the true flavors of each ingredient. Positives -- shaved coconut, granola, nuts, sunflower seeds and raisins were healthy good. Negatives -- freeze dried blueberries and strawberries were too crunchy/tart/airy (I should have gone with the dried apricot), the flaxseeds ended up airborne or on my lap, and why did I ever order that flavor-clashing dried tomato?
For custom-snack fun, give YouBar trail mix, bars or shakes a try or send as a unique gift. It's also a nice solution for those with food allergies.
