"ILVTOFU" Too Dirty for the Road
Categories: Nutrition & Supplements
Kelley Coffman-Lee is a vegan, and she wants to world to know it. She's so proud of her healthy lifestyle, in fact, she recently ordered a vanity license plate professing her love for tofu.The Colorado Department of Revenue turned it down. Why? Coffman-Lee requested the plate read, "ILVTOFU," a simple statement about her adoration of her favorite soy-based snack. Colorado authorities worried that other drivers might not get the vegetarian message. "We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex," says Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch.
For her part, Coffman-Lee seems a little confused about why her local DMV would have something against tofu. "Tofu is a word, I haven't said anything bad. I think it's crazy they denied it," she tells KMGH-TV, Denver. "It's not a dirty, evil food. It's very wholesome."
We agree, Kelley, tofu is very wholesome. But then again, tofu really isn't the problem here.
Coffman-Lee won't be able to advertise her healthy habit on the back of her car, but you might. A few Internet searches revealed several diet and fitness-related vanity plates. See if you can decode them and leave your answers in comments below:
- 10SNEI
- 2FAST4U
- 2M8OS
- BFATFRE
- FIT2SKI
- FTNSASY
- NRG
- EVREDAY

OK, I can get them all, but the first one, which has me stumped:
* 10SNEI = ?!?
* 2FAST4U = Too Fast For You
* 2M8OS = Tomatoes
* BFATFRE = Be Fat Free
* FIT2SKI = Fit to Ski
* FTNSASY = Fit and Sassy
* NRG = Energy
* EVREDAY = Everyday
Mine isn't healthy, but does have to do with food:

Hahaha. I love that one, Mark. I'll give commenters a day or two, and if no one can figure out the first one, I'll print the answer.

Couldn't she have put a space?
ILV TOFU
When making the custom license plate at the DMV website, most will allow for a space.

The problem is with the FU and there is the possibility that someone who sees the plate either 1) doesn't realize what tofu is on the plate or 2) simply thinks she was smart by using tofu which, all in turn could (though WE know it doesn't, again, we are talking about someone glancing at the plate) think she is saying I love to F(insert the three missing letters here) or possibly I love to F(again, insert three missing letters) You. F and FU are pretty common ways to represent that word/statement online and in print when space is limited.

Tennis anyone?
Why not ILVTOFOO? Not as easily misinterpreted as FU.
