Week 12 at "The Biggest Loser Couples" was full of colored shirts, a history-making 100 pounds and a checkered flag surprise. At the outset, nine remaining contestants were handed their original colored shirts back, to everyone's relief. No more teams, we're onto singles this week. Alliances are floating around, but singles delivers a different flavor to the competition. Read on for all the juicy details, including a healthier way to bbq this summer.
Pick Your Trainer -- Like elementary school kids picking teams on a playground, Bob and Jillian's feelings were on display for all to see as contestants picked their own trainer. Obviously Filipe and Sione went with Bob, along with Kristin, Ron and Aubrey. Tara and Laura stuck with Jillian, so did Helen. Mike flipped a coin and randomly went with Jillian. If you have the money to afford a trainer, pick wisely. Don't flip a coin.

First of a Two-Step Challenge for Immunity -- To kick off the first step, contestants had to divide their weight lost to date among opponents. Tara got hammered with 257 pounds, then Helen at 215. The rest were saddled with less than 100 extra pounds. Tara got her feelings hurt on this one, but too bad. If I were playing against The Immunity Legend, I'd toss a few pounds her way. In a fit of anger and frustration, she threatened to toss the next weigh-in and go home. Laura talked her out of it, turning her anger into motivation for step two with NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer. Do you reach for a Twinkie or simply work harder when your self-esteem takes a hit?
A NASCAR Two-Step -- I'd two-step with NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer. After racing around the Auto Club Speedway to meet the colored shirts, he looked pretty hot in that racing suit. Clint explained his success in NASCAR is all about setting and reaching goals, and he reminded contestants their healthy journey does not end with the show. To win immunity, contestants had to pull a two-ton NASCAR half a mile down the track. However, car weights were not the same, weight was added corresponding to the first-step results. Sione pounded out a fast lead, but steady Tara fought back and passed him and Mike -- while pulling 257 extra pounds -- for the checkered flag, a V.I.P. NASCAR trip and a burnouts around the track with Clint. I couldn't believe Tara pulled this one off, she really is the bomb at challenges. Did the win save her at the weigh-in?
Don't-Miss-Trainer-Gems
- Jillian says drinking water increases your metabolism, helps muscle tone and renergizes you after your workout. It's simply difficult to lose weight without proper hydration. If you're looking for an alternative to tap water, "Biggest Loser" is a fan of Brita products. Me, I tap the tap.
- Jennie-O Savory Roast Turkey Breast Tenderloin is perfect for skewering on the grill this summer -- with chunks of sweet potatoes, mushrooms, peppers and onion. This turkey has only 100 calories per serving, 22 grams of protein, is 99 percent fat-free and takes less than 10 minutes on the grill. I usually go with chicken skewers, but I'm up for trying this. Jennie-O also has Applewood, Lemon Garlic and Tequila Lime turkey breast tenderloins, too.
Tara Was Shut Out -- Tara may have won immunity, but she lost the chance to make history as the first woman to lose 100 pounds on the ranch. She dropped only three pounds this week, a pathetic 1.52 percent weight loss. I'd celebrate that loss in the real world, but it's not enough at the ranch. Contestants regularly shed three, four and five percent of their weight each week. Kristin lost eight pounds to reach 255, which launched her into 100-pound history. Well-deserved, Tara can't sweep 'em all.
Suck It Up and Ask For Help -- Maybe Kristin lost eight pounds this week because she asked for help. In a private moment with Trainer Bob, she asked if he'd stop focusing so much on Sione and Filipe and give her some time in the gym. When's the last time you asked someone close to you for help? Maybe time away from home to work out or a little at-home support to find healthier recipes together.
Aubrey and Filipe fell below the yellow line this week, and Aubrey was sent home. She was ecstatic to meet up with sister Mandi and find out her 500-pound dad has dropped 26 pounds since he last saw her, but her own weight loss journey had a humbling, shaky start. By Day 19 at home, she had gained nine pounds by sacrificing time at the gym to be with her kids. She pulled it together and two months later is down 10 pounds to 181. I think Aubrey said it best -- it might take her longer to lose the weight than a person without kids, but she fully intends to keep losing. Don't give up, moms. Tune in next Tuesday as a mystery number of eliminated players returns to the ranch for a second chance, and Ron is carted away in an ambulance. Hope he's okay. See you next week.
