Fit for Short Sleeves - Arm Lift Update
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss

My last two posts were titled "Ouch" and rightfully so. In the spirit of overcoming, I have resisted the urge to create an "Ouch" trilogy. I can honestly say that I am better. I am not great, nor do I feel completely normal, but thankfully, I am better. For the most part, the pain has subsided. I am still experiencing some weird nerve pain in my left forearm and both elbows, but that is to be expected.
In some ways, I feel as if I failed myself by not taking the arm lift (brachioplasty) more seriously. I took every aspect of the abdominoplasty very serious and learned more than any lay person need know about it. I could have probably performed the procedure -- if I were not predisposed to faint at the sight of blood. I did the homework on the abdominoplasty, practically interviewed people who'd had it done and read almost everything the internet had to offer.
I did not do that with the arm lift. I did very basic research and made a lot of assumptions based on, well, my own two cents, which was worth even less than that. Here's two more cents that may prove priceless for those considering any kind of plastic surgery: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Ask your doctor any and all questions, ask people who have been there/done that, research your surgeon and do all it takes to be in the know. My wonderful surgeon Dr. Olivier was my best resource. No matter how silly my questions were, she made me feel comfortable when asking.
Aside from all the arm madness, I am back at work, and life is busy once again. The aches and pains are not enough to keep me away from my music and my work. I am working out again with my trainer Jake and am very happy about that. This was the first week that he's had me attempt weight lifting and to my surprise, it went just fine.
No guts, no glory. No pain, no gain. These sayings apply to where I am today. But so does I'm too sexy for my shirt. Or at least too sexy for long sleeves in the summertime. It's done and over. I am happy that I did it and am COMPLETELY thrilled with my results. My scars are healing nicely, and I can hardly wait for the sun to peek out enough to bare my arms. In the end, that's what really matters. I am happy, and there's certainly no ouch in that.
NOTE: Thanks to all of you guys for the many e-mails and well wishes. Your kind words and comments really do motivate me. Keep the faith!

Karla, I'm so glad you're back! I'm sorry that the brachioplasty was so painful, but all that's going to be over soon, and before you know it, summer will be here, and you'll be strutting your stuff!!
