Wine & Cheese - How Many Calories?
Categories: How Many Calories?, Nutrition & Supplements

I've been in Europe for the last month or so, and one thing that I've been adjusting to is the European eating habits. It sounds cliche, but wine and cheese is definitely pretty big over here -- luckily for me, these are two of my favourite things in the whole wide world. Then again, given the slight 'shrinkage' on my favourite jeans, maybe this is an unlucky coincidence.
So I ask you: Is a plate of cheese and fruit accompanied by some delicious vino really that bad for you? What do you think?
Based on the research I did on Nutrition Data, you're looking at 990 calories for a cheese plate and a glass of wine. Ouch. Here's the approximate breakdown:
- Five cheese wedges - 580 calories
- Five crackers - 80 calories
- Three figs - 145 calories
- A handful of grapes - 65 calories
- A glass of red wine - 120 calories
Wow. I guess it really adds up. Ditch the figs, keep your cheese consumption to a few slices and be stingy on the wine and you'll cut this number down a bit, but you should still be careful where cheese and alcohol are involved.
