Paradise - Fitness, Fun and Sun at Sandals Resorts
Categories: Fitness, Reviews & Products
I'm writing to you from Jamaica, where I've been enjoying a week at several beautiful Sandals resorts. The sun is bright, the waves are warm, the healthy food is plentiful and the endless amount of free athletic activities mean I'm sure to leave this place at least a pound or more lighter than when I arrived. Am I trying to lose weight? No! Is it likely to happen, though? Probably!
Sandals is a chain of "couples only" resorts located in posh spots around the Caribbean. They're all inclusive too, which basically means you get to eat, drink and play as much as you want without shelling out extra dough. This all-inclusive thing removes lots of vacation-related stress, I assure you.
Most folks believe gaining at least five to 10 pounds per week of vacation is a rule, and my job is to convince you that it's not. Not if you come to a place like Sandals, anyway. As readers of this site, I know you're health conscious and eager to pursue and maintain your fitness levels wherever you go. Sandals allows you to do that.
Rest and relaxation are available nonstop at Sandals, but so is athletic fun. Water skiing, swimming, volleyball, diving, snorkeling, dancing, kayaking, golfing and windsurfing are available all day, every day at no extra charge. I swear to you, I wore out the speed boat drivers the morning I chose to water ski. I wanted to keep going, and they couldn't refuse me, so I ran the drivers and their boat ragged until my legs would no longer hold me up. Fun!
The Red Lane Spa and Fitness Centers on property are great. The gyms are stocked with legitimately nice equipment and a super staff of cheery and helpful fitness trainers. The spa is luxurious, and the treatment options are vast. I highly recommend the "West Indies" massage.
There are 153 restaurants available throughout the 16 Sandals resorts. The variety ranges from Caribbean to Italian, French, Thai, Japanese, British and more. Some are super casual, and some are fairly fancy. More important, the chefs at each restaurant are completely capable and willing to accommodate your dietary desires and restrictions. Eager to please, they can create meals to suit your caloric preferences, allergies and tastes. Gluten free, sugar free and Kosher meals can be provided upon request. My vegetarian meals have been created with the most unique and delicious indigenous produce known to Jamaica and have knocked my socks off by their flavors.
Of course, Sandals also offers limitless amounts of alcohol and desserts, but I know that's not your priority. Sure, it's fine to have a drink or pastry on occasion while you're here, but you cool fitness folks want to play and have real fun.
The economy is rough, but if you're in need of a vacation, Sandals offers a pretty fantastic deal. Beginning in April 2009, you can book an entire week at one of their gorgeous resorts at only $2,660 for two people. For a beautiful room, unlimited fun, food, drinks and entertainment, I think Sandals is a healthy steal.
