72-year-old Ex-Sprinter Chases Down Teen Thief

Here's why you should've joined the high school track team and trained to sprint the 100. Being in great shape at a young age may have residual effects when you're on Social Security, especially when teen thieves take off with your purse, handbag, that European carryall a la "Seinfeld" or your bailout-wishing wallet.Jean Hirst, a 72-year-old ex-sprinter from England, became lost while driving to the theatre. Three teenage girls jumped in and offered to help her with directions. Upon arrival, one girl took off with her bag.
A former champion in the 100 yards during her schoolgirl years, Hirst exited the car -- you know how we women feel about our purses -- and covered 70 yards in about 15 seconds. Closing in two strides behind the purse snatcher prompted the teen thug-slug to ditch the bag in surprise. The remaining girls ended up apologizing for their friend. Hirst told them to choose friends more wisely and refrained from calling police. While she was quite sore the next day, her daughter blames it on not warming up properly. Or perhaps it's because Hirst hasn't run the 100 in over 50 years?
