Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly, our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.
Fitz: You're playing the title character in a ABC's new prime-time show "Better Off Ted" which debuts Wednesday, March 18th at 8:30PM That must come with an insane amount of pressure.
Jay: It's exciting! But I'm not nervous, because the show is based on a fantastic ensemble cast. I don't do more than anyone else.
Fitz: You also star in "Private Practice." How do you handle both shows?
Jay: We've had a ton of time to shoot "Better Off Ted," so on that end the shooting schedule has been incredibly relaxed.
Fitz: Do you feel pressure as a leading man to stay in shape?
Jay: The scrutiny on actors is pretty intense, but I love fitness. I play ice hockey and basketball several times a week. I participate in those celebrity basketball tournaments as well.
Fitz: Are you any good?
Jay: I'm pretty good, but not when I'm up against Rick Fox and Taye Diggs. I also do a ton of ab work and train with a stability ball and medicine ball.
Fitz: How are your eating habits?
Jay: Except for the holidays, I maintain a fairly strong regimen. I eat three to four square meals a day, but don't necessarily eat "health food." I eat a lot of chicken, rice, and veggies. I enjoy a steak now and then, but keep it in moderation.
Fitz: Have a favorite healthy food?
Jay: Fish and broccoli.
Fitz: Favorite not-so-healthy food?
Jay: Steak and fries or any other potato product.
Fitz: Have many shirtless scenes?
Jay: I have one on "Better Off Ted," and I have to admit that it made me self-conscious and insecure. I was given notice ahead of time, though, so I definitely worked out a bit more to prepare.
Fitz: Have any advice for the average Joe or Jane just trying to become more fit?
Jay: Why not do it? The benefits are immense and there are no negatives!
Fitz: Thanks so much for the fun interview, Jay. I can't wait to see the new show!
