Eggs and Toast - The Better Breakfast
Categories: Nutrition & Supplements
Eat a bagel for breakfast or opt for eggs and toast and you'll consume about the same amount of calories: 350. Specifically, that's one bagel with two tablespoons of cream cheese and a three-ounce serving of yogurt or two scrambled eggs and two slices of toast with jelly. Pretty Even Steven, huh? Yep. But one breakfast is better for fighting the flab. Dieters in one study who ate eggs and toast five days per week for eight weeks lost two pounds more than bagel-eaters. Egg-eaters had a 61 percent greater reduction in BMI and took off an extra half inch from their waists, without raising their cholesterol. Their energy was higher too.
What gives? The egg protein, probably, and the yolks' mix of fats too. The combination seems better at reducing hunger throughout the day. But only when combined with a weight-loss plan. Eating eggs while not otherwise cutting back will not do the trick.

This makes me SO happy -- eggs and toast is one of my go-to breakfasts when I need a little more than fruit and yogurt, and oatmeal isn't doing the trick.

There some science to eating right. While it is not the eggs and toast alone, but as the article suggests the combination of protein, fat and carbs together make a good combination.
Protein helps you feel less hungry and the fat give you the energy you need to keep going. While it might seem strange you do need fat to lose weight and you need protein to preserve your precious muscle.

I eat eggs with a bagel from "The Alternative Bagel" line. They are smaller bagels with only 110 calories, 7 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fiber. I top it with whipped cream cheese, and with the eggs, it comes to just under 350 calories. I usually have a cup of OJ with it, though.

Tad is right on..you need the protein and the carbs. I think a great combination is egg whites and oatmeal. Keeps you feeling full and gives you good energy. Prefect for after a long workout!
