Skinny Bitch Fitness DVDs - A Review

Skinny Bitch Fitness BodyNot all that long ago, I had a chance to talk to the authors of the best-selling book, Skinny Bitch, Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. I learned a lot about how their vegan lifestyle helps them feel healthy and happy, and got to chat with them about their new Skinny Bitch Fitness workout DVDs.

And, actually, I did more than talk to them about the DVDs -- I tried them out! Currently, the two available are Boot Camp: A Fat-Blasting, Body-Altering, Butt Kicking Workout and Body: Sculpting Sessions to Tone and Define the Abs, Legs, Arms and Butt. I did them both, and seriously, I can see why Rory and Kim are not only thin, but toned -- these workout videos don't mess around!

First, I did the Body DVD, which has four 20-minute sections -- Ab Blast, Leg Shred, Arm Hell, and Butt Burn. However, while each section definitely worked the appropriate parts, it wasn't like lifting a weight over and over. You move quickly from one move to another, and many of the moves incorporated multiple muscle groups, which I'm always in favor of doing.

I did Boot Camp the next day. Boot Camp includes a five-minute warm-up, 25-minute interval-based workout, a 10-minute ab routine, and a five-minute cool-down. And then, there's also a series of "5 by 5s" -- five different five-minute workouts (because you can always find five minutes).

Like Body, it was a good workout, and felt like it went really fast. Some of the moves were surprisingly difficult, but Kim was always right there with the easier version.

Likes:
  • I felt like I was working out with my girlfriends. They were joking the whole time about their sweaty butts, and talking about the sexy clothes they were going to wear to show off their hot bodies.
  • As I already mentioned, it was a real workout, and it was thorough -- my entire body felt tired at the end.
  • There was good variety, especially since I have both of the DVDs. I could do these once or twice a week without getting sick of them.

Dislikes:
  • My biggest complaint is that the beat of the music didn't always match up with the moves, which is something I'm pretty picky about. Because of that, I had to make sure I watched the whole time so I didn't miss anything.
  • Also, some moves felt a little awkward, and there wasn't much in the way of verbal cues.

These are definitely videos I would recommend to my girlfriends -- they're fun, but effective, and it feels different than most because the girls really are joking back and forth throughout the workout. If you like your workouts super hard and super serious, it's not the best option, but if you want something you can do at home, in the morning, and smile while you're doing it, this is a great choice.
