What do bananas, beans and salmon have in common? They can all boost your mood.

Daily Fit TipEating the right foods help to maintain weight and reduce your risk of certain diseases. But did you know that food can also boost your mood?

  • Nerves keeping you awake at night? Try a small bowl of fiber-rich cereal. Carbs can lead to serotonin production and serotonin has a calming effect.
  • Feeling a bit anxious about that party? Try foods like bananas and leafy greens; they stimulate the release of dopamine which helps product pleasant feelings.
  • Stressed out? Drink a cup of black tea. It may help lower levels of cortisol (a hormone related to stress).
  • Feeling sluggish? Don't reach for caffeine or sugary treats. Instead, opt for protein-rich foods like beans, lean poultry and cheese.
  • Could your middle name be Sourpuss? Get rid of the grumpies by eating selenium-rich foods like sunflower seeds.
