Gyms - They Can Make You Sick
Categories: Fitness
We know gyms help us in the health department, provided we actually use the exercise equipment and sweat our tails off in the various classes most fitness centers offer. But can gyms make us sick too? Perhaps, says Woman's Day magazine.MRSA, a bacteria that causes staph infection and is resistant to many antibiotics, can be transmitted if you wipe off your machine and then later wipe the sweat off your face with the same towel. Think I'm crazy? Hans Schlecht, MD and assistant professor of medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, says it's true. I'm inclined to believe him. And you?
Scared or not by this possibility, you'd be wise to play it safe. Use a paper towel to wipe your machines and your own cloth towel reserved for your face. And if you have any cuts on your skin, cover them with bandages before heading for your workout. And don't even think about using this as a reason to excuse yourself from the gym. Going far outweighs not going in terms of your health.

This is not just an urban legend, I personally contracted MRSA from my gym here in Montreal. It was extremely scary and unpleasant. I am a very healthy 26 year old female, and my gym is very clean and modern, so it goes to show it can happen anywhere. I had a TINY cat scratch on my leg which became infected with the MRSA virus. I now have a permanent deep scar on my leg, and now wash my hands like a madwoman!!! It took heavy antibiotics and about 4 months to heal. I am very grateful to still HAVE my leg!!

The bottom line with home gyms is that it does not matter how wonderful the claims are about how easy, effortless or intense a gym exercise workout can be. The fact of the matter is, no matter how much money you spend on your home Fitness Equipment .
