Dita Von Teese Has an 18-Inch Waist
Categories: Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Pilates and ballet are to thank for Dita's hot bod and her, can you believe it, 18-inch waist? I saw it with my own two eyes on TV. Sure enough, the dancer girl cinched that thing tight with a teeny-tiny corset. WOW.
Not that you want an 18-inch waist or anything, but you might consider pilates, ballet and a little Burlesque if you wish to shape yourself into something worthy of a wedding party performance. Or maybe you just want a nice shape. Hey, we hear ballet dancers are more fit than swimmers -- might be worth a try. We've got some good facts about pilates too. Burlesque? Well, we're not experts but we're sure Dita could teach you a thing or two.

Faith Hill
This 41-year-old has a hott mama body, and the world knows it thanks to her flat-belly pose on the cover of the much-drooled-over December 2008 issue of "Shape" Magazine. She's also banned high-cal cocktails, like margaritas and daiquiris.

Shakira's workouts take place on stage, with live audiences to cheer her on to dance harder (and burn more calories -- belly dancing can burn about 300 calories an hour). It is possible to have the body of a twenty-something in your forties -- at least it is for Vanessa Williams. This foxy mother of four explained how she does it to "Us Weekly": "When you're in your forties, you have to eat less and you have to move more. The bottom line is, it's work!" Dita's waist is so small because she has worn corsets for so many years - now even with them off her waist is still small. She is fit as well though.

Who wants a woman with an 18-inch waist? That would be like hugging a 12-year-old *shudder* Besides, how is she ever going to be able to carry a child to term with a body that deformed. NOT what God intended...

Who cares what "god intended," Dita is absolutely gorgeous; she rocks and is an amazing woman. Besides being brilliant, she does all her own makeup and wardrobe and is an incredibly talented performer. I really don't think she's all that worried about carrying a child to term; not all women think their entire lives are meant to be spent as baby factories. Not to mention, my girlfriend has met her before and tells me that she is incredibly sweet and very nice as a person.

Jayne Mansfield had an 18 inch waist and a size 40 chest. She had 3 children. One of which is Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order SVU. Jayne was born that way...she did not use corsettes or breast implants. So obviously you don't have a clue that a woman can actually be born that way and can have children.
apadenska2 1-31-2009 @ 5:15PM
'scuse me, but I had an 18" waist and carried a baby to term who weighed 8 lbs, 7 oz. I'm not deformed, retarded, or anything other than what God intended!
Kate 1-31-2009 @ 7:20PM
My bad, ladies. I was just thinking about everything I read about back in the day when everyone wore a corset and infant/mother mortality was horrendous. More power to you if you have that figure naturally and can carry it off. I would never dream of insulting anyone's natural figure, I just have a problem with such extreme body modification. No offense intended. *apologetic grin from a chick who didn't know it was possible to be born with a waist that size*

Now lets pick apart Marilyn Manson's body. How sexist you all are.

the size of one's waist has nothing to do with giving birth. There are some women who have no hips and pot bellies and others who have a small waist and hips. My mother had a 20 inch waist and gave birth to three girls, one of whom weight 10 lbs. I sense a lot of jealousy in some of your comments.

Not jealousy, teresa, just straight-up ignorance on my part. I'm perfectly happy with my body and she has a lovely one. However, obviously i need to learn to put my brain in gear before engaging my mouth. I honestly did think that size itself was a problem because I once took a history class which discussed in one unit how wearing a corset could lead to problems. Oopsies.

I used to know her back in the late 90's, when she was a rising star. I will say she has always been a very sweet and classy lady. I have no idea what she saw in Marilyn Manson, but thank God she moved on! Anyway, she's a tiny, and very fit, lady. The corsets may help some, but most of it is how well she takes care of herself. And, yes, her body would be able to change and adapt to carry as perfectly heathy baby inside, should she become pregnant one day.

thanks kate. you probably have attributes that I dont have; I have a 20 inch waist but thin hair. everyone has their own attributes and should focus on the good and not try to change the bad.

I honestly wasn't trying to disparage anyone, I was just honestly not aware that it was possible to be that tiny and still be healthy. Asthetic even if it's not my cup of tea, and as long as you can still be well and do it, more power. I just worry about people who starve themselves or drug themselves or pump themselves up or slim themselves down unhealthily and against what nature meant them to have. I'm afraid I've always been dead curveless myself (which probably gave me a skewed idea of what constitutes a healthy waist-to-hip ratio), but what I lack in curves I kind of make up for in lean muscle, so it's all good (except, teresa, that i too have awfully thin hair, which i SO hate and take about a half-dozen vitamins for). Seriously didn't mean to diss anyone at all. In retrospect, what that article about corsets PROBABLY said was that it was unwise to wear them WHILE pregnant, or something, which is a whole different story. There are plenty of things I do every day now that I would never do pregnant. The important thing, to me, is being comfortable in your own skin, just so you're healthy. I guess some of us need body modification for that and I suppose that, applied properly, a corset is no less or more extreme than poking holes in your face or inking up, and no one judges that.
teresa 1-31-2009 @ 8:05PM
That was my point. some of these models who are 5 8 and weigh 110 are anorexic. I am not. I am 5 2 and weigh 105. Your body type is hereditary. I know women who weight what I do but their weight is concentrated in their stomach; they have no butt or hips and I do. Its a body type not necessarily the result of someone who starves themselves.

lol, this article seems to have become a personal discussion between the two of us :) I totally agree that body type is hereditary. I'm 5' 0", and at my slimest weigh 140 pounds, but that makes me a size 2. As a size 4 or 6 I'm closer to 160-175. But still nothing resembling curves, lol. We're all different and that's part of what makes life on this grand planet so interesting. Also, I must say (now that I'm more or less done defending myself for making a stupid, shoot-from-the-hip comment without researching it first), even though Ms Teese's body-type doesn't do it for me, her FACE is one of the most gorgeous I've seen in many years. Almost a shame her venue is as limited as the stage. (Although I love stage performances, you have to admit that TV and movies give you wider coverage.) In spite of her slender figure, I'm reminded of Marilyn Monroe at her height. Only I think Ms Teese may look better. She certainly seems to exude more confidence.
