Running - There's Nothing Like It

There's nothing better than a crisp, brisk evening run after a week-long fitness hiatus (brought on by a slump, followed by skin cancer surgery, followed by an allergic reaction to the latex tape used after the skin cancer surgery). My body was feeling tired, lethargic and soft. My run, all 3.5 miles of it, made me feel awake, spunky, even stronger and more toned. I know, I'm not, really -- it was just one run, after all -- but the illusion of it is enough to make me feel so much better.
It's great to be back. And I'm already plotting my next run, my next appointment with the weights in my garage, my next stop at the gym. I plan to revamp my MP3 playlist and commit to fitness on most days of the week. That's what I usually do -- the commit part -- and while a week off isn't so horrendous (it was a nice break, to be honest), I happen to prefer a little sweat in my day. It's energizing -- it's pretty good for weight control too, you know -- and I just operate better in life when I'm feeling fit.
Are you feeling fit? If not, get out there and run (or walk or bike or whatever). There's nothing like it. You'll see.
