Drop Lots - 4 Tricks for Trimming the Fat

Joy BauerDitch your starchy carbs at dinner, says Joy Bauer, nutritionist and author of Joy's Life Diet. You know how we tend to overeat at the end of the day, when work is over, stress is at an all-time high and we just want to unwind? Yep, that's just the time you don't need starchy stuff, said Joy on a recent TODAY show.

Another tip for trimming the fat: Eliminate extras. She means all the little bites you take here and there throughout your entire day. Grab a Ziplock bag, she says, and every time you go to grab something (a morsel from your kid's plate, a piece of chocolate from Suzie's office candy dish), drop it in the bag instead. Examine your stash at the end of the week and be amazed at how many calories and fat grams you avoided.

Get yourself walking, too. A brisk walk suppresses cravings, burns calories and will get you fit. One last tip: Make a list of your trigger foods -- the stuff you just can't stop eating once you start. Then get rid of them. And don't buy them anymore. Maybe, maybe, you can have a slice of pizza once you realize your weight loss goals, but only when you know how to enjoy just one piece.

Joy has more insights on how to drop lots on her website. And America Takes It Off has some good ideas too. Click on the badge below if shrinking a size is on your mind.
