Walking the Walk - Day 5

Day 5: When you've drastically lowered the amount of salt you eat, you'll find yourself shopping a little differently. Suddenly, I'm following that other common piece of diet advice: Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Everything in the interior aisles just has too much sodium. Okay, not everything. I found an unsalted version of my favorite tortilla chips, which put a very big smile on my face. But in general, to keep sodium under 1,000 mg, I've been forced to give up or severely limit many of my favorite processed foods.
This might seem like a negative, but it's not. I've been hovering around the same three pounds for weeks. A personal trainer friend of mine once told me that losing weight is 80% what you eat. If you aren't losing, she said, take a serious look at what you're eating and see what you can improve. This week has reminded me that I am in control of my weight loss, I just need to make better choices.
