Bark Orders at the Gym

Army workoutWho wears the personal trainer pants in your relationship? My husband and I ditched the kids last night for our favorite date night -- two hours together at the gym. We entered giddy and departed tired and sore after a spontaneous partner personal training duel.

It all started on the treadmill -- with five minutes left, my husband started a wimpy cool down. I barked at him to raise the pace to six-and-a-half mph and get his heart rate back up -- interval training burns major calories. I followed suit by raising the incline to 15 percent and my heart rate soared to 80 percent max. Then we hit the weights, barking a series of upper body exercises to one another. I made him change his grips on dips and assisted pull-ups, he had me doing a version of standing cable chest flys. Those hurt good.

Near the end, the guy-who-never-does-a-lunge completed 20 alternating lunges with a body bar on his shoulders. I was ordered to complete physio ball wall squats and a couple killer core exercises. Next time you need free personal training, bring your partner or a friend. End your duel with these fantastic partner stretches compliments of ShaNay Norvell over at Lance's LIVESTRONG.
