Ashley Tisdale - Body by Bread

Tisdale, the 23-year-old High School Musical star, works hard to stay in shape -- she eats well and works out rigorously. I do that too. No junk food for this girl. Me either. But there are no bans on carbs for the self-proclaimed once-too-skinny starlet, who tells Shape magazine that she loves bread, corn bread and french fries. She just adores carbs and can't do without them. Here's where we differ.I love carbs too. But I mostly steer clear to keep my scale stable. A piece of bread here and there, a handful of crackers on occasion -- this I can handle. But making a regular habit of carb consumption makes my weight soar, and I'm just not comfortable with that.

Carbs are what gives our bodies energy. It all just depends on which carbs you eat that will affect weight loss/gain. Simple carbs are going to have a high GL, which is gonna make you gain your weight. These are normally sugar-y foods like candy, sodas, baked potatoes, carrots, etc. If you are bodybuilding these are essential after a workout. At any other time you should consume complex carbs like sweet potatoes, broccoli, whole grain cereal or whole grain bread, and brown rice, etc. Complex carbs also tend to have more fiber and protein, which will help you burn more calories. The extra fiber will even lower your net carb count. You should never go on a no-carb diet though.

Fats also give your body energy. Once you're adapted to burning fats as energy they work just as well or better than carbs. I notice no difference in my energy based on my carb intake (and I have tried both ends of the spectrum). In fact, I think the time I had the most energy was at a time when I was eating very few carbs (20-30g/day).
I agree that zero may not be the best idea but even Atkins never advocates that little.
