Figs - A Festive Food to Enjoy

Figgy Pudding is a traditional Christmas dessert -- at least according to one very popular Christmas carol -- but it might not be the healthiest sweet treat to indulge in after a big Christmas dinner. Instead, our friends over at Fitsugar think you should try figs on their own. Figs are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber and calcium, and they're sweet and delicious to boot. Finding fresh figs this time of year might be a challenge, but they're readily available in dried form. If you do find fresh figs, keep in mind that they're very perishable and should be purchased only a day or two before being consumed. Look for figs that have a rich, deep color and for those that are plump and tender, but not mushy.
