Order Nice Over Naughty - 5 Low-Cal Cocktails
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
Your last social engagement before Christmas is tonight -- thank goodness. Order up a couple of Glamour magazine's 5 Best Low-Calorie Cocktails and you'll transform that fattening 1,000-calorie buzz into a 200-calorie slim 'n trim evening:
Nice
Here's the gross-factor behind those naughty cocktails -- a Long Island Ice Tea, Mai Tai or Margarita all have more calories than a Big Mac (540 calories). Gulp.

Nice
- Bubbly -- four ounces of champagne -- not the champagne tower -- has only 85 calories, less than a beer or that four-ounce glass of red wine you'll probably spill on your host's white carpet. If you've got light carpet, Wine Away works wonders.
- Sour Apple Martini -- sour mix shaken with vodka and sour apple liqueur for only 160 calories.
- Vodka 'n Diet Lime Soda -- pour in a fancy glass with a wedge of lime to spice up this under 100-calorie beauty.
- A Small Mudslide -- this super-sweet 184 calorie dream is a much better choice than a white Russian (338 calories).
- Gin and Tonic -- refreshingly sexy, any host can mix up this 103 calorie-combo. Diet tonic means even less cals.
Here's the gross-factor behind those naughty cocktails -- a Long Island Ice Tea, Mai Tai or Margarita all have more calories than a Big Mac (540 calories). Gulp.

How about a (modified) mojito?
1.Muddle 1/4-1/2 of a lime with 4-5 mint (or basil!) leaves. 2.Add few dashes of simple syrup, depending on your preference. We use 1:1 splenda:water for this- zero calories and softens the too-sweetness of real sugar, plus you don't have to heat it; splenda dissolves at room temp.
3. Add ice to top of glass
4. Add Bacardi (low carb!), amount depending on desired effect. Sometimes I make mine with just a splash. Friday night, more than a splash.
5. Fill to the top with club soda (zero calories)
6. Pour into a larger container and then back into the glass to mix.
I don't have an exact calorie count on that but only the bacardi and the lime have ANY, so it can't be a lot, right?

Its very strange to see the calories of alcoholk
* 80-proof vodka (40% alcohol; the most common type) has 64 calories per 1oz
* 86-proof vodka (43% alcohol) has 70 calories/1 oz
* 90-proof vodka (45% alcohol) has 73 calories/1 oz
* 100-proof vodka (50% alcohol) has 82 calories/1 oz
