In this gal's eyes, you're pretty close to perfect if you go to the gym at least three times a week. But just walking through the door won't necessarily deliver ultimate fitness, especially if you're regularly guilty of a few of these 12 most common fitness mistakes.Outside Magazine offers a dozen fitness-don'ts -- here are three to consider:
- Ignoring Weights - My body loves cardio, but hates weights. You can't peak in fitness without lifting dumbbells and steel plates.
- Moving In One Plane - Hamster gym-goers: Listen up. You may be able to glide around the track in a forward/backward plane of movement forever, but you must incorporate side-to-side and rotational plane movements for well-rounded muscle development. Wake up sleeping muscles with lunges, rotating with a medicine ball and lateral jumps.
- Not Keeping Score - Start tracking all those post-workout numbers your cardio machine spits out at the end of your 30 minute date or wear a heart monitor on your jogs to track heart beats per minute across mileage. Review those log entries and challenge yourself to beat 'em.
