Barbell, dumbbell. Dumbell, barbell. What's the difference, really?

Barbells and dumbbells are not the same. But when given the choice, Fit Tip Daily says most men would use barbells to crank out their exercises. Wrong move, apparently, because dumbbells maximize calorie burn. It's because they challenge you in a three-dimensional space. Basically, you burn more calories because you've got to balance the weight while you lift it. Dumbbells also help even out muscle imbalances.

Borrowing from Men's Health magazine, Fit Tip Daily reports that dumbbells are better for beginners and for evening out strength imbalances. They're safer than barbells too. Barbells allow you to go much heavier, they're better for working your legs, and they're necessary for explosive exercises.
