Age Without Getting Old: Lessons from Celebrities
Categories: Healthy Aging, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment
I've spent a lot of time with various celebrities this year and have poked them all about their health and fitness habits. Two of the most inspiring were not the young hard bodies we see on the covers of tabloid magazines each week. No, these two celebrities have healthy capable bodies, which have endured many years of living.
The woman I speak of, at 57 years old, is every bit the blond bombshell she was known as 30 years ago. She works out six to seven days a week, mixing up her workouts with: kickboxing, yoga, water aerobics and climbing her steep driveway known as "butt hill."
The man who stood out is in his late 60s and still plays basketball and baseball on a regular basis. The guy has probably been in every hit sitcom in the past three decades and told me that the highlight of his year would be if I could hook him up to throw the ball around with the Heisman Trophy winning University of Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow.
This beautiful woman is none other than the Charlie's Angel beauty Cheryl Ladd. The man, Fred Willard. The two things these two role models have in common is that they exercise on a regular basis, and they both consider it fun.
In fact, Fred Willard recently starred on an episode of ABC's Pushing Daisies as a flamboyant magician. Do you know what he thought was tons of fun? Climbing in and out of his magic box a billion times during the shoot. "It was fun!" he told me. Fred also loves to toss the ball around with his 10-year-old grandson.
Folks, I know 30-year-olds who are stiff, achy and weak. Can you imagine what those people will be like in another 30 years? Ack! The secret to aging without being "old" is to move a little bit every day and treat your body with respect. Eat more good foods than bad and keep a joyous outlook on life.
Cheryl and Fred, thanks for the inspiration. You two prove to us that life can be just as great in our 60s as it was in our 20s.
**Note to Fred: I'm serious about that Gator game. Give me a buzz and we'll go chomping! It'll be fun.
Trivia: Did you know Fred Willard played Will Ferrel's boss in the movie Anchorman? That must've been even more fun than climbing in and out of that magic box!
