Biggest Loser Families - Back In Time to the 1980s

Biggest Loser '80s Week
The Biggest Losers Families went back 20-plus years this week, outfitting slimmer contestants in '80s fitness gear with all the scary trimmings -- big hair, leg warmers, boom boxes. I graduated from high school in 1985, so I recall spending hours leg-lifting with Jane Fonda in P.E. class. A hater of headbands, leg warmers and ankle-high, white leather aerobics shoes, I did adore Flashdance, Footloose and slapping on my new Sony Walkman orange headphones to jog along with Let's Hear It For The Boy. Kevin Bacon, hot. Patrick Swayze, hotter. Have any '80s fitness memories? Send 'em our way in a comment. Back to the show.

All Quiet On The Blue Front -- Of course Vicky's livid her beloved Brady was voted off by swing-vote Amy. In retaliation, a mean-spirited silent treatment ensued. It was fun to witness Vicky eat crow, but she didn't lose enough weight on that diet and was nearly voted off. Trainer Bob tried to dually break the ice and shore up Amy in her quest for the title. The way Amy consistently loses poundage, she's got a real chance.

You Heard It Here - I Predict The Winner Will Be - While many might disagree with Amy's decision not to vote Vicky off at the end of this week's weigh-in, I think it was a smart move. Vicky can't shed weight fast, top-loser Amy will have another crack at her. While Coleen's demise was painful for viewers, her departure sets Amy up for the title if challenge stars align right. Watch out for wild card Ed, he's losing big.

1980s Challenge Trivia
- With a bucket of water weighing half their respective body weights, contestants had to answer various '80s diet and fitness trivia to stay in the game for $5,000 or a chance to add one pound to any sorry soul at the weigh-in. Missed trivia meant more water added to your bucket. Are you ready for '80s trivia? Here goes:

  • True or False? Twenty years ago U.S. teenage boys drank twice as much milk as soda. Today they drink twice as much soda as milk. Scary, but this is true. This is one reason why there's no sugar soda in our house.
  • Today, the most commonly purchased dress size is a 14. In 1985 was it an 8, 10 or 12? I guessed a 10. Wrong -- even worse, it was an 8. Our eating habits and lack of fitness have wreaked havoc on our bodies the past 25 years. To be more specific ...
  • Today, women between the ages of 20-39 are eating an average 385 extra calories per day. That's enough to gain how many extra pounds in one year? 20, 26.7 or 35.8? Wow -- 26.7 pounds. The 21st Century is not so grand.

Don't Miss Trainer Gems

  • Jillian took the saddles off Black team's spinning bikes. Sweat and inspirational misery was flying on their no saddle Last Chance work out ride. A little That's Fit advice -- I wouldn't want to have a clueless moment of exhaustion on the bike and forget the saddle is gone. The pain. Perhaps double-stick tape a gooey cupcake on that saddle instead?
  • Eating healthy is an investment, so protect it, says Jillian. Try new Ziploc Fresh Produce Bags to keep your fruit 'n veggie investments safe. Hey Ziploc, you have my approval to use this copy.
  • Have Power Snacks on hand, says Bob. Nuts, low-fat string cheese and apples on-the-ready keep your blood sugar stable, metabolism at high speed and cravings curbed. Thanks Bob, I reached for a handful of nuts yesterday and it's true. What's your Power Snack?

That's Fit
wishes Coleen much luck in her real world weight loss. From serenity, kindness and fitness drive, she was an admirable contestant. Starting the show at a size 22, she's now a 10, gunning for 147 pounds by the finale. Women control the game this season, does Ed have a chance? See you next week.
