Q. Fitz, My entire upper arms wobble when I wave hello or goodbye. I'm only 26 years old, but I feel like my arms look like they belong to an elderly woman. I run so I'm thin, but my arms are too flabby. Help! Jada

A. Hello running woman! Thanks for throwing me the soft ball. In fact, maybe that's something you should try. Throwing softballs is a great workout for the triceps. And, if you hadn't predicted what I was going to say, you should be working your triceps! And biceps and forearms, etc.

Running is a great activity to build endurance, burn calories, and create shapely legs. It does zilch for the arms, though. If you want firm arms, you're going to have to start strength training. Sounds like you need an entire upper body workout plan.

I suggest you get started with a simple workout including push-ups, dips off a bench, bicep curls and tricep extensions. Lift weights that are truly challenging for you -- they should be really heavy but not impossible to lift 10 times. Do this every other day for a while, and when you become more efficient, lift heavier weights. Learn more exercises to target your shoulders and lats as well.

What keeps our bodies firm are the muscles inside of it. If you do not train those muscles, they have no incentive to be anything more than flabby. Beyond straight strength training, I recommend you try boxing, tennis and basketball. These fun sports work wonders for the muscles of your upper body. Do this Jada, and you will soon be shopping for spaghetti strap tank tops. Now get to work!
