Getting your healthy groove back: Five tips
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss
My healthy habits have taken a bit of a vacation over the past couple of week. Ten days ago, I took a short trip to Vegas (which-- let's face it -- is not the kind of place that helps you stay motivated to eat well and exercise.) Then, this past week, I had out-of-town guests, complete with four birthdays to celebrate over the weekend -- one of them my own. But I'm not writing this to tell you about me -- I'm trying to offer you (and myself) some tips for getting back on track after falling off the health wagon. Here are five ways to revive your routine:
- Fit in fitness. For me, it's as simple as taking a look at the drop-in fitness class schedule at my gym. I write the ones I plan to attend into my schedule, just like I would a business meeting.
- Eat cleansing foods. After a period of indulgence, get plenty of fruits, veggies, herbal tea and water and stay away from sugar, salt and heavy, rich meals.
- Take a day off. Sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation. Take a day (or even a half day) to recuperate, get a bit of sleep, catch up on your chores or do whatever necessary to feel less stressed.
- Plan your meals. Doing so takes away the stress of figuring out what to buy, what to make, etc.
- Plan ahead. Before your next trip or busy weekend, set your gym bag by the door and clear an hour on Monday for a run. After your hectic weekend, you'll be all set to go.
How do you get back on track?
