Too skinny for gastric bypass? Get it abroad

Let's be honest: Most of us are unhappy about our weight, and Gastric Bypass surgery seems like the perfect quick-but-painful fix for all our weight woes. But such an extreme medical procedure is usually reserved for those who are clinically obese and/or suffering health problems because of their weight -- not for people who simply want to rock their skinny jeans again.

That's why many people are traveling to other countries to have the surgery, an article out of the UK reports. These so-called 'Gastric Bandits' want to get the surgery but are told by their doctor they're not fat enough for it, so they shell out for surgery in another country.

Obviously, this kind of procedure is not without its share of controversy -- would you defy your doctor and head to another country for major weight loss surgery? Myself, I'm firm believer that good old diet and exercise is the way to go but hey -- that's just me.

For MOST individuals, I would say that Gastric Bypass is not the answer to their weight issue. There are so many complications that are associated with this surgery. Although, for certain patients, I can really see where Gastric Bypass is a really important option. Healthy habits, including fitness and great eating habits, along with self discovery are the key to long term weight loss. Weight loss takes TIME people, it's not easy, losing 185 lbs. is one of the hardest things I have ever done. But it is possible! Jenna www.jennavaught.com

If fat people can take the easy way out and get gastric bypass surgery why shouldn't it available to all of us? I'm tired of busting my butt to try to stay skinny. Why shouldn't I be able to take "the magic pill" too.

Gastric bypass surgery is a boon for those who are morbidly obese, and for them, the benefits are endless. Not everyone who has this surgery is successful in weight loss for many reasons. The surgery can be complicated and dangerous as well. Gastric bypass is not meant for everyone with obesity. One must remember that these surgical procedures are not alternatives to proper diet and exercises – it is only a solution of the last resort.
