Don't trust Splenda? Here's what to avoid
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
Splenda makes you fat, or so says reports out of the UK. Studies found that rats given Splenda were fatter than rats not given the sweetener. And that's not all -- they also had less beneficial bacteria in their guts. Of course,we're talking rats -- obviously humans are different. And, as I previously told you, apparently the study was funded by the sugar industry, which means you might want to question the motives behind this whole 'splenda makes you fat' claim.
Don't trust Splenda? Here's a quick list of what it's in:
- Some diet sodas
- Many low-carb or sugar-free chocolate bars and candies
- Diet Snapple Iced Tea
- Reebok Fitness Water
- Juicy Fruit gum
- Kids Trident sugar-free gum
You know what I'm going to say -- everything in moderation, be it Splenda, sugar or whatever. But personally, I'd choose regular sugar over artificial sweeteners any day, unless I had a medical condition like diabetes. What about you?

I was drinking about a liter of diet coke a day and putting splenda in everything...then I stopped cold turkey and I feel SOOO much better. I feel cleaner, if that makes sense. I felt kinda hazy all the time with all that aritificialness. Now, I just go for the regular stuff in moderation.

Hey Martha,
The study may be right. However, it's important to know just how much Splenda they were eating. As most sugar alcohols are derivatives of sugar, if you eat a ton of it, you're gonna eventually wind up storing fat.
I've just posted a three part article on sugar alcohols that you should check out. In the third post I recommend to my readers that if they are going to use a sugar alcohol as a sweetener or sugar substitute, Erythritol is probably the best choice.

Thanks for the post!
