Diet Detective: Subway's 6-inch Double-Meat Italian BMT
Subway has it all over McDonald's and Burger King in the spokesperson department. The weight-loss maven Jarrod doesn't wear make-up and clown shoes, and he definitely doesn't have an oversized plastic head. And, best of all, according to spokesman Jarrod, eating Subway can help you drop pants sizes. But is this true?
By and large, and comparatively speaking, yes, it is true. In most cases, Subway is a healthier choice than McDonald's or Burger King menu items. However, just because it's the lesser of three evils, doesn't mean all Subway sandwiches are truly healthy. Case in point: The six-inch double-meat Italian BMT.
With 630 calories, 35g of fat, 100 mg of cholesterol, 2,850 mg of sodium, and 49g or carbs, calling this sandwich healthy takes moxie. Never mind the fact that the sandwich serves up more than a quarter of daily calorie requirements, it contains 400mg more sodium than what the RDA is for an entire day. Plus, processed meats have been linked to certain types of cancer. Again, not exactly a win for the Italian BMT.
Are there healthy options at Subway? Absolutely. But finding them may require a little investigating on your part. The good news is that you can already cross this one sandwich off your list.

Hi,
I work at subway, and yes I believe that the double meat isn't good for people. But that is their choice, we have other options like turkey or wraps or salads, that are healthy. Besides not everyone gets double meat. By the way, Jared is the correct spelling of his name =)

All things in moderation... Doubling most things would automatically make them that much "worse". Hmm... So, if you eat 3 meals a day and you get a 1/4 of your calories from one meal, that sounds like pretty good sense to me. Of course, you have to get that other 1/4 from somewhere else, so either breakfast is 1/2 or dinner is 1/2 or you just end up with 1/4 missing.
