You're eating right and exercising, but that stubborn scale won't budge. Are you making one of these mistakes?

  • Eating too fast. When you inhale your food, you don't give your stomach time to let your brain know you're full. After each bite of food, set your utensils down, chew slowly, and actually taste and enjoy your food. You'll probably find that you eat less when you eat more slowly.
  • You're not eating enough. Yes, you have to cut calories to lose weight. But if you've cut down too much, your body may be protecting itself by slowing your metabolism. First, calculate your calorie needs and then keep a food diary for a few days to make sure you're getting enough.
  • You're not getting enough sleep. Sleep helps regulate hormones that play a role in hunger. Additionally, research determined that men who didn't sleep enough had higher blood sugar.
