Britney gives up booze, loses 10 pounds
Categories: Celebs & Entertainment
Few can deny that Britney Spears is back on the top of her game -- she has given up her old hard-partying ways, gotten her recording career back on track and worked hard to get her famous figure back. Now, with only a few pounds to go before looking as stunning as she did early on in her career, she's given up her final vice -- alcohol -- and it's helped her lose an extra 10 pounds, the Daily Mail reports. Says a source close to the star: "She has decided to give up drinking alcohol, because not only does it cause weight gain but she wants to be on the ball. Britney has lost 10 pounds since giving up her one remaining vice, which obviously she is ecstatic about."
Britney's got it right -- alcohol is just a bunch of empty calories, so giving it up is important to weight loss.

Umm, wouldn't smoking cigarettes be considered a vice? I'm pretty sure she hasn't given that one up yet. She seems to be doing better but I think she's got a ways to go before she can consider all her vices gone.

Ummmm...I think they were refering to ''food related vices''...last time I checked, cigarettes did NOT have any calories. I guess some people need to have everything explained to them.

I think somebody on her health team missed something here...it's not important for her to give up alcohol to lose weight...it's important for her to do so with her anti-depressants (She is supposedly a diagnosed bi polar, remember?) There's a bigger picture here and it's that she is on meds and these mixed with alcohol can have really dangerous effects. I would know as I've been on meds for bi polar disorder going on 7 years. Taking meds for a psychological disorder and then saying "I stopped drinking to lose weight" sounds rather shallow to me.

1HauteMomma: You made an excellent point. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar II disorder in 1994, and was on mood stabilizers as well as antidepressants which caused lots of weight gain. (I was correctly diagnosed with depression this past spring.) However, as we both know, having a psychiatric disorder is not a vice, nor is it a character flaw. Good for Britney Spears that she stopped drinking. I wish her and her family nothing but the best.

I wish , I have tried, for my son to get help. He is Schizo, off meds and drinking. When he calls I have no clue as to whether he is telling the truth or not. Maybe someday he will take responcibility for his illness. With the New Health laws I have no say. There are alot of sick homeless people out there with the same disorder, there is just not a good system to take care of them.

Anti-depressants do not always cause weight gain. I've lost 25 pounds since I started taking Celexa.

can someone please get it together...
the longer you give a crap (no pun intended).. the more publicity and the more teenagers will probably be more intimate with their toilets....any kind of "star" owes it to the younger generation to butch up and get it together. not every one's dream comes true...yet, if this is what you do with your gift, your talent, you are not deserving of your bounty. If shaving your hair, or d the great lindsay promo....darling, your fans are going to do their best to imitate you. ...... IN SO Facto....get a grip, there will never be enough skin to cover your pain, please ... don't continue to poison our youth
you hold so much power, do the right thing. I loved you guys once... even though I knew the celibacy thing,crap...was probably just that. I can only pray and I'm no fanatic...that you truly find your brains in time so that when you guest star in Jeopardy with the great Alex Trebeck....ok I may have screwed up a couple there... nonethelesss....may your brain be bigger than your ego...... OK... now.... MAKE THAT YOUR FREAKING MANTRA...PEaCE.... try reading that last word again

Hey she seems to be doing everything right, giving up alcohol is probably the best thing for her, whether just for weight loss, control, but she seems to have gone through alot. I'm happy for her. Alcohol personally is my biggest vice, and I'm on medication for bipolar illness, I'm not sure I'm as strong as her! She is an adult! She can make all the decisions she wants, good or bad, as long as it doesn't affect those around her, or hurt anyone, but it seems she is being very "adult" right now and God be with her she is terrific!

I don't care what anyone says, Britney is making bi-polar women look good. She acts just crazy enough for us to pray for her while still thinking by some act of God we have a chance to have a wild fling with her. That's living on the edge and it's very profitable and sexy.

It's nice that she is trying to get her life back together... if only she could sing without having to electronically correct her voice. For being such a famous "pop star," she can't even carry a tune! In Hollywood, all you have to do is become famous, collect a fan base, and you can produce any kind of garbage to continue getting your name out there. At least she is getting her life back together... thankfully for her boys.
