Q. Hi Fitz, My friends are trying to get me to try a Zumba class, but I'm more in to intense training like sprints, running and boxing. I'm not sure if this dancing class is for me. You look pretty hard core. What do you think? Leah
A. Great question, Leah. You know, I am very much like you in the training department. I love intense exercise; the feeling of "Oh my God, I need to puke" elates me. Having said that, there is also a place in this world and my month for a little booty shaking.
Is Zumba an uber challenging workout? No, not in my book. But it is at least a moderate workout and is also a hell of a lot of fun. It's not slow, but it does inflict-exercise induced nausea. Zumba will provide you with: an amazingly fun time with your buddies, a few hundred calories burned, and probably a much-needed change from your present training schedule. Think of it as cross training and give it a try. What have you got to lose? Now get to work!

The picture you have up there is of Muay Thai/Thaiboxing, and its a terrific workout. I went to a seminar on it last weekend and got what was probably the best workout I've had all year! I wasn't there so much for the physical benefits though, as to learn the art/sport. Thaiboxing is not easy, it is quite challenging but very rewarding. I did not expect to see as many ladies at the seminar as I did and was even more surprised at how powerful they were.
