Brandon is also a former personal trainer, and his body is proof that he knows his stuff. Want to know his secret to spectacular abs? Read on!

Fitz: You're in your second season of Trading Spaces. How's it going?

Brandon: It's unbelievable! I've always wanted to work on television, and when I was told I got this job, I honestly cried. To be able to do what I love, carpentry, and just be myself on TV is an amazing gift. In fact, after I cried, I called all of the girlfriends I ever mocked for being weepy to apologize.

Fitz: That's pretty "manly" of you to admit it! But you're not just "the carpenter" on the show, you're the "hot carpenter." How's that?

Brandon: It's pretty fun. Our viewers are pretty excitable. We shot an episode on Halloween once, and I wore a flight suit with not much on underneath. All day, one of the homeowners kept trying to unzip my suit. It was kind of funny at first, but then it became incredibly embarrassing!

Fitz: Speaking of ... how have you earned that great body of yours?

Brandon: I used to be a personal trainer, so it's easy for me to create my own workouts. I normally train six days a week, no less than five. I strength train each muscle group twice a week -- once using heavy weights and low reps; once using lighter weights with higher reps.

Fitz: What about cardio?

Brandon: I despise cardio machines, so I play sports instead. I play kickball, softball, basketball, football and volleyball. Sports are far more fun, and serve as a mental break for me. I also love to play at the park with my boxer.

Fitz: Very cool. Most people give up playing sports when they graduate from high school.

Brandon: I know! But sports are great for accountability, because you're more likely to show up if a team is counting on you. And people can say they don't feel like going to the gym, but it's hard to complain about going outside to play.

Fitz: Tell me about your eating habits.

Brandon: I choose lean protein and produce most often. I do eat starchy carbs like pasta and bread, but I do it mostly in the mornings and stop by three o'clock in the afternoon. Carbs provide energy, and we don't need energy to sleep. We need energy to get through the day.

Fitz: What is your favorite healthy food?

Brandon: Salmon with asparagus, with a garlic, olive oil, butter mix. Sauteed slightly.

Fitz: What is your favorite not-so-healthy food?

Brandon: Bojangles smoked sausage egg and cheese biscuit with seasoned fries and sweet tea. Bojangles is a fast food place with fresh made greasy biscuits.

Fitz: I couldn't have said it better myself!

Brandon: I stick with the philosophy of eating really great six days a week, and then go a little lax on the seventh. That doesn't mean I eat horribly on the last day, but I allow myself a treat here and there. This works for me psychologically, because it gives me something to look forward to.

Fitz: Do you do push-ups and pull-ups? If so, how many can you do?

Brandon: I actually do both a lot! I can do 100 push-ups in a row, and about 45 pull-ups on my first set.

Fitz: And what's your favorite exercise for those amazing abs of yours?

Brandon: Honestly, the simple crunch works best for me. I just do them slow and exhale completely on the crunch and inhale completely as I go back. Every time I do them, I end up sore the next day.

Fitz: Brandon, what kind of advice would you give to the average Joe or Jane just trying to become more fit?

Brandon: It doesn't matter how great your biceps look if your heart isn't strong. Commit to working out most days of the week for a minimum of three months. By that time, you'll have experienced the adrenaline rush that exercise gives you. Give it a chance and you'll become addicted. Working out is my drug. I love it, and if you give it enough of a chance, you will too.

Fitz: Going back to your job. You've owned and run Homecierge for many years and have proven yourself as an elite carpenter. What's your house like?

Brandon: I've been in my home for about five years. It's a split level home with a brick exteriors. The interior is full of natural colors, linens and leather. I've redone each room one by one over the years.

Fitz: Most people would kill to have your skills when moving in to a new home!

Brandon: I do like to work on my house, but I do way more work on my Mom's. If I spend a weekend with her, I'll get a huge list of things done.

Fitz: How sweet! Is she a fan of your show?

Brandon: Definitely. We like to watch the shows together and talk about the rooms we love and hate.

Fitz: You know, there has definitely been some doozies on Trading Spaces, but when I was building my home five years ago, I was obsessed with it. It really gave my husband and I the confidence to do more things ourselves and be more adventurous.

Brandon: And that's the purpose of the show! It's supposed to show people what they're capable of doing on their own. Make them more creative.

Fitz: Brandon, you're a ton of fun to watch on Trading Spaces and an incredibly talented carpenter. Apparently, really savvy in the gym too! Thanks for taking the time to talk with me!
