Daily Fit Tip: Enjoy the season healthfully

Autumn's cooler weather may be starting to chill the air, but don't let it put a freeze on your fitness and nutrition habits. Enjoy the best autumn has to offer, healthfully.

  • Visit a pumpkin farm and take advantage of all the opportunities for movement. Walk around the pumpkin patch looking for the perfect jack o' lantern candidate. Let yourself get lost in a corn maze. Is it as active as a fitness walk? Of course not ... but there's no reason you can't get a little extra walking in while having fun with your family.
  • Pick your own apples. Many orchards allow you to pick your own. What better way to have fun, get a little exercise, and get the freshest fruit possible?
  • Enjoy healthful treats. Skip the donuts and caramel apples (or just enjoy a small serving). But eat your fill of fresh apples and other seasonal fruits. Depending on where you live pears and peaches may still be in season.
  • Cook with seasonal produce. Add pumpkin to baked goods or make a squash or pumpkin soup. Stuff an acorn squash with roasted veggies for a filling and healthful dinner. Bake pears and apples after sprinkling them with cinnamon. About.com has some fall recipes to try.
