Traveling workout

Wouldn't a trip to Paris be wonderful right now? Or a relaxing sojourn in the Caribbean? A struggling dollar and a devastated economy don't exactly make going on these trips any easier. But, if you're still bent on doing some traveling, one place you can still do so and not break the bank (ooooh, maybe that's not the best expression to be using these days) is the gym.

Many popular resistance training exercises can be made even more effective when performed on the move. Rather than remaining stationary, either when seated or standing, adding movement will incorporate the use your core muscles. A good example can be found in an exercise known as the Traveling Shoulder Press.

To perform the T.S.P., grab a pair of dumbbells that are about half as heavy as those you would normally use when performing a shoulder press (aka Military Press) and hold them level with your jawline. Next, step forward as you press the weight up at the same time. From here, you can either continue to walk forward with the other leg, or bring the outstretched leg back to the starting position and then take a step forward with the opposite leg. You'll quickly find that performing this exercise -- and many others like it -- in this fashion places greater emphasis on your stabilizing muscles, in addition to adding a cardio element.
