Avoid these 8 breakfast foods
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Not only does a well-rounded breakfast give you the fuel you need to start the day, it'll also help you keep your daily calorie load down. But breakfast, especially if it's fast food, can be especially sinful. The authors of Eat This, Not That recently lined up the worst of the worst when it comes to breakfast food. There aren't too many surprises; did anyone actually think that McDonald's deluxe breakfast was a healthy choice for any meal of the day? But looking over the fat, salt, and calorie content is a good reminder that one meal can equal nearly all the calories you should take in in an entire day if you aren't careful.
So what should you be eating for breakfast? According to a recent study, there's no reason to skimp. Obese women who ate a hearty, well-rounded breakfast of high-quality protein and whole grains lost significantly more weight than women who ate a smaller breakfast. Whatever you choose, avoid refined grains and added sugars.
What's your favorite healthy breakfast?

I don't usually eat breakfast (time), but even if I do, I like eating breakfast for lunch/dinner. Like the foods associated with it. *shrug*

I have a bowl of Cheerios, no sugar added, with Skim Milk, a cup of Lipton's Tea, sweet n low added, and a 7 oz glass of fresh orange juice for breakfast. I sometimes substitute and use Low sugar instant Apples and Cinnamon Oatmeal. I take a multi vitamin, 2000 mg of vitamin C and1 Acidolphilus each day. I walk my dog each evening for 35 to 45 minutes, have a job where I walk up 2 flights of stairs 5 or 6 times each day. I am 70 years old and do all the painting and papering of my walls in my home, do most of the small repairs, am getting ready to put in bricks by the side of my home to make a walk. I feel very well and am told I don't look my age. The only med I take is for low Thyroid which was only discovered about three years ago. My faith in God sustains me.

Grandpa used to eat 6 scrambled eggs, a half pound of bacon, and toast with buttered grits and down-river coffee with cream (the real stuff) and sugar (the treal stuff too). His doctor told him his diet of high fat, high cholesterol would kill him.
Ninety-eight years later, it did.

I've been eating bacon and eggs for breakfast for almost 60 years and my doctor tells me my heart is in perfect shape, my blood pressure is fine, my cholesterol is the lowest he has ever seen in someone my age. I am in good physical shape and people tell me they think I look about 45 years old. I have more stamina than most of the people I know, including many in their late 20s and 30s. The health hazards in food are the chemicals that are added to the pre-processed garbage so many people seem to think is healthy. If you eat enough fruit and vegetables, you can safely eat reasonable quantities of meat, eggs and cheese. Also, drinking hot tea instead of huge cups of fancy coffee or soda with meals helps break down fat and prevent it from clogging the arteries. You should also drink plenty of water and eat fruit, veg or cheese for snacks. Avoiding refined flour and white sugar will go a long way to keeping you healthy.

You know some of you seniors seem obsessed with others thinking you look younger than you really are. And what is up with telling us what we should eat?? Do you have a R.D. after your name? Doubtful. You should feel lucky you're able to use a computer from your generation.

My husband & I eat Bran Buds, Honeybunches of oats & Fiber One mixed together w/2% milk & wheat toast. We are both a young 70 & this keeps us "regular". We also slice up peaches, strawberries & a couple of times a week, 1/2 banana each. This is a yummy breakfast. He is diabetic & I am not thin.

Folks.
If you got good DNA you'll live forever. If you got bad DNA you'll die tomorrow. Smoking , drinking and all bad health habits should be determined by your DNA and controled bt the government. AS assinine as this may sound it's just around the corner and coming soon to a government office near you.

We are over looking a fact that nobody ever seems to mention...its called "Genes" doctors nor these health critics ever mention your genetic disposition...to me, i eat whatever i want, and for the past 10 years my weight has been roughly 135-138 pounds and my doctor just tell me i have a high metabolism and ill probably never exceed over 145. Im 25 years old, i have on both sides of my family grand parents and great grand parents that lived well past 95 years old....one came 2 months shy of 100, guess what, the odds are in my favor of living long if not longer then them. Picking and chosing what to eat IF YOU COME FROM A FAMILY with health problems and known health issues then its best to watch what you eat. People, your genes determine exactely what happens to you...food, could, but genetics is something, right now, cannot be altered. Working out, cardio, jogging, walking, all that helps too...but you could eat everything that these people tell you to eat and can make you live 10 years longer but ultimately, your genes have the last say.

I'm really happy to have found a forum such as this. I received little to no nutrition training as a child. I've lived on fast food from age 18 to 53. I've seen it take it's toll on my body, and my wife's body, and it worries me. I need advice on how to get my "innards" happy again and functioning like the well-oiled-machine it was intended to be. Please feel free to email or IM to discuss any ideas you might have. I'd LOVE to hear your ideas. Thanks!

Boy, when I eat breakfast, I want to EAT BREAKFAST - not have a skimpy little snack I don't get any pleasure out of! Bring on the bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, etc.! LOL
(That said, I guess I should explain that I weigh 110 pounds and LOVE food, and don't deny myself anything! Well, at least as far as food is concerned... LOL!)

None of those meals are what I would call "breakfast". I see breakfast as home cooked, but I also see bacon, eggs, steak, pancakes, and food in abundance. I dont think there is anything wrong with a traditional breakfast, even if its high in all of these supposedly bad things like saturated fat. I think what gets you is that all of these things are non traditional, heavily processed foods, and encourage a much different lifestyle from the at home meal. But dont condemn bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, and pancakes just because mcdonalds managed to make them deadly.
