Q. Hi Fitz, When I go walking with my friends I notice that I often sweat and it shows through the back of my shirt and armpits. I know sweating is good but not when you are the only one that looks like that when walking with other ladies. It is really embarrassing. What can I do? Laney
A. Hi Laney. I'm so sorry you're feeling icky, sticky, and embarrassed walking with your friends. It's rarely fun to feel like the odd one out. I'm thrilled you came to me though, because I can assure you that you are not! I train dozens of people each week, and almost across the board ... every client apologizes to me for sweating profusely.
For the most part, I think it's hysterical. Why? Because my purpose as their fitness trainer is to: get them to sweat profusely! It's one of my greatest compliments. Your sweat means that you are challenging your body, thus raising its core temperature. As a result, your healthy body responds by trying to cool itself off. This is all great news!
Now, there is a medical condition called Hyperhidrosis, but people dealing with this sweat profusely all the time, not just when they are exercising. I recommend you test out various deodorants to see if you can get those underarms under control, and some moisture wik shirts as well. These things may make you feel better. And this may not be the answer you were looking for, but I think you should start to embrace your sweat! The sweating process means that you are accomplishing what you set out to do. You are challenging your body and that's the secret to advanced fitness!
Getting all sweaty and gross reminds me of being a kid. I loved having a red face, sweaty clothes and dirt on my knees. Hopefully your wet shirt will remind you of your vitality, and also help you appreciate that cool shower when you're done. Heck! If I were you, I'd see how quickly I could drench my shorts and socks too. It's cool, Laney. Now get to work!

qestion? I am fit and healthy 41yofemale. I generally eat a well balanced diet but once in a while I like to splurge on a high calorie snack. Can you burn calorie for calorie? ie: if the snack is worth 250calories, if I burn the same 250 calories - does this counteract the intake?
