Yuck! I just watched a little news bit about Minnesota on Fox News. They were featuring the state as it is hosting the Republican Convention in St. Paul. (That title is meant to be read with an adorable accent.)
Apparently all the folks in Minnesota aren't in "the know" about health. On display in this feature was an obnoxious amount of fried food being carried around on sticks. Mmmmm. Heart disease. Corn dogs, fried chips, fried meat and to top it off, chocolate covered bacon!
Would you ever even consider eating this? It looked pretty fowl to me, though I am fairly particular about what I put in my mouth. I can only imagine some guy sitting in a diner one day thinking, "how could I improve on this strip of pig fat? I know! Let's dip it in chocolate!"
Sometimes I think I've seen it all, but then I learn about chocolate covered bacon. Looks like I'm going to have to launch a full speaking tour in Minnesota. The state looks lovely. I'd hate to see even one resident pay the price for that horrific concoction. Just say no!

Fits. Someday when your gone and floating around after eating all that perfect food, judging others with distain and finger pointing, hopefully you will finally realize it was just a bit overboard. go easy, relax, have a piece of bacon. I think your commentary was rude.

I agree Jim! It's not like that's all we eat around here, you forgot to mention they were featuring our state fair which happens to be an amazing event attended by hundreds of thousands each year. I would argue that MN is actually a fairly healthy state, we just know how to enjoy treats on occasion. And FYI--cheese curds are like heaven.

Mngirl. I admit I didn't know what cheese curd was so I pulled up an image, Looks good to me! Have you tried it chocolate covered? I eat healthy, which allows me to enjoy the world of yummy stuff. You would love my sausage gravy. FYI back at ya!

Fitz,
You'll be glad to know that not everyone in MN eats “state fair” food all the time. ;-) The "food on a stick" is due to a tax issued to booth owners that serve food on plates. A person can find everything on a stick at the fair including grilled vegetables, fish, pork & chicken.
Peace,
Tim

Ack! Sorry if I sounded rude! I meant to compliment Minnesota. "Cute accent" "lovely state". Those were meant to PRAISE the state and its people! The combination of chocolate and bacon though ... gross! No worries though, people make a lot of uber bad food all over the world. This combination is just one of the many fitness folks like me, point out as a food to avoid!
Trust me. I have fond feelings for every state in this country and the people in each. Didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

Don't knock it till you tried it.
I did and it's not good.
Oh but the cheese curds and grilled corn are to die for.
The State Fair only lasts 10 days out of the year. The rest of the year, we Minnesotans enjoy outdoor activities that makes us one of the most active state. So, while we love our fattening midwestern food, we burn them off quick.

Hopefully I'll be able to come MOVE with you in the future! Minnesota does seem great. But ... the chocolate covered bacon still sounds bad. :(

I NEEDED to try this, so I whipped some up and took some to the office this morning. The reaction ranged from "Omigod, this is the best thing ever!!" to "Interesting, but one once in a while is enough." Nobody was grossed out. Me? I thought it was heavenly.....and easy to make....bacon, oven, chocolate, double boiler...done. Now, what do I do with all that leftover bacon fat??
PS I weigh 113 pounds, a treat every once in a while? Yes, please.

I'm not a fan of bacon. I normally eat it every blue moon or so. But I did try some chocolate with bacon (not chocolate covered bacon, but a chocolate bar with bacon in it). And it didn't taste like bacon. It tasted like salty chocolate, which is very yummy. I've had a chocolate bar with pink salt and goji berries that's really yummy. I wrote about it on my blog: http://leth-gourmet.blogspot.com/2008/08/debunking-bunk-chocolate.html
