Too fat to be executed?
Obesity increases your chance of an early death. Well, in most cases, anyway. For Richard Cooey, being obese might just save his life.
Cooey, 41, was sentenced to death in April for the rape and murder of two women, but claims he's too fat to be executed. At 5'7 and 276 lbs (and a BMI of 43.2!), Cooey claims the executioners would have too difficult a time finding his veins. Additionally, he's on a migraine medication that could affect how his body processed the anesthesia he wold receive prior to being executed.
Does this mean we will see a rapid increase in the average BMI of prison inmates across the world? Only time will tell.

Yeah - I say hooey Cooey. But I guess it's normal to fight being executed. What in the world does the migraine medicine matter at that point? Anyway, doubt it will fly in court.

Why is he on migraine medication? He killed somebody, he should NOT get this kind of medical treatment. I cannot fathom why we offer medical treatment to convicted criminals behind bars, ESPECIALLY those on death row! This infuriates me. Those of us working hard, obeying the laws, NOT killing innocent people can't always afford our own medications, but this guy is a MURDERER and he's getting drugs to ease the pain of his migraines! NO, NO, NO!
If you are behind bars, then I don't feel you should be treated for thse kinds of things. Your migraine causes you problems? Sorry, deal with it. You get an infection that could kill you (and you're on death row)? Fine, wait and see what happens - if they die it saves the taxpayers money!
