Stay slim over summer

Summer's already half over. Scary, huh? Have summer indulgences left your summer shorts feeling a little tight? Don't panic -- just focus on what you can do to maintain and maybe even lose a few in this homestretch into fall. Here are some tips to use -- even when you're on holidays:

  • Keep fit. Maybe you'd rather spend the summer in the outdoors than the gym, but that doesn't mean you can't stay active. Organize a hike, a bike, a game of baseball -- just so long as you get off your butt at least once a day.
  • The rule of halves. When eating, make sure at least half of every meal or snack is fruits and/or veggies. French fries don't count. Using this rule, it should be easy to get 5-10 servings.
  • Follow your hunger. Don't feel bad about eating when you're hungry, but eat only when you're hungry. If you're not? Skip it.
  • Water is your best friend. When it's hot out, it's important to keep hydrated. Keep some cold water on hand at all times.
  • Snack time. Going on a road trip? In addition to water, keep healthy snacks on hand to avoid convenience store temptation.
