Taco Bell gives free tacos to dieters
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
I know that every time that I make an effort to lose a few pounds, the first thing I think is usually not, "Hmmm, maybe Taco Bell for lunch." Fast food restaurants are often trying to change that unhealthy image, and Taco Bell is no exception. They have their "fresco" menu, nine items with nine grams of fat or less. And in Oklahoma City, they're giving away one free taco to residents as a reward for their weight loss efforts.
The restaurant teamed up with the local mayor in a city-wide weight loss challenge. When residents reached 100,000 pounds lost, Taco Bell decided to give everyone one free taco. I initially wanted to be critical of this partnership, since fast food is often loaded with fat, salt, and excessive calories. But I'm starting to think that Oklahoma City residents may have found that happy balance between eating right and enjoying a healthy indulgence now and then... even a free taco.

Actually, taco bell tacos have never been that unhealthy unless you get one with all kinds of extras like sour cream, etc.

These articles are always so breif and uninformative. Is it a special reduced calorie taco or just a regular one?

I refuse to eat taco bell. I went once a few yrs ago and the girl working in the drive-thru didnt even speak english. She kept saying "HUH?". Finally, she said, in very broken english, "We dont have any meat". It took so long to just get to that point I really didnt care if they had meat or not. I called the corporate headquarters and complained. I told them I wouldnt ever go to taco bell again. They sent me a coupon for a free meal. That coupon went in the trash. I will never eat that crap again.

I know exactly how you feel, babydoll: I work MickeyD's drive-thru and about half of my co-workers speak no English whatsoever. Mind you, even as I am working my way through school, because I work in a tourist area, I get to practice the six languages that I currently speak and the additional two that I am working on at the moment. My apologies for that uncouth foreign worker! Everyone should speak the Anglisch, ja, mein liebchein? ;-)

My 93 year old Mother enjoys an ocassion taco, maybe two or three...I think she doesn't care if it is 150 or 200 calories. She is healthy and over weight but who cares at 93. Hesperian Senior

Ray, it doesn't contain cheese or sauces like their regular tacos. I like their fresco menu. The items are good and they aren't smaller portions, just made differently.

I think fast food needs to start making healthier choices. I'm sick of their salads that add more calories than the regular food. That's why America's in the mess they are and many are dieing of heart attacks.

People, its OK to eat some foods that taste good but aren't ultra-healthy for you. And if you can't do that, then at least learn to leave the rest of us alone so we can do it. Because, contrary to popular belief, it is alright if not everything you eat is low carb, low fat, low sodium, high fiber, rich in antioxidents and totally organic.

For Taco Bell is is great as a advertising platform, but for most people a small taco, when being bombarded with all these pretty pictures of things that look great.. what would the average person do, let alone a person really trying to lose weight. i do think it is self serving on the company stand point, and its putting people trying to reach a health goal in a bad spot.

It is a documented fact that Taco Bell pays s fine every year for serving below standard beef to it's patrons. It pays this fine happily because it is still cheaper to pay the fine than start serving better quality beef without all the fat and fillers. Happy dieting!~

Steve:
Where is it documented that taco bell uses lower quality beef? I am interested in that research/documentation/

i am with you on this one, where is this documented "facts" and what is the source? But then what do you consider lower quality beef? 80/20 that every resturant uses? or a soy blend, which many food services use? I would guess at this point we are just to blindly accept what is stated on a blog as fact. Ya right, cite your sources so others can read your "facts".
