Your Turn: Ladies, would you work out in a skirt?
Categories: Reviews & Products
I have a closet full of fitness gear, but I don't waver much from my favrouite core pieces: A pair of lululemon capris or full-length pants (depending on the weather), a form-fitting sports bra, a comfy-but-not-baggy tank and some cushioning sports socks. What I wear to the gym certainly isn't cutting-edge fashion, but it's always comfortable and practical.
So it always kind of surprises me when I see fitness outfits with skirts. A few people at my gym wear them, and I see them all the time in fitness magazines. Personally, I would never wear a skirt to work out, unless I was playing tennis (and even then, I would be afraid of giving the whole world a show when I bent over to pick up my ball ... ) Don't get me wrong -- I think running skirts are cute, but I feel more comfortable in pants. Especially running -- I'd be worried about chafed thighs in a skirt.
What do you think?

You do know there are shorts under the skirt, right? There isn't any chaffing. I wear running skirts because most running shorts are a little too short for me. And you know, I'm not a teen anymore. I'd rather cover the area up. So, while I'm not the modesty police or anything, I personally feel more comfortable in a skirt.

I wear running skirts for the same reason - I like the little spandex shorts underneath. They keep my legs from rubbing, and the skirt means that no one has to see the horror of my backside and thighs clad in little spandex shorts!

I personally own a running skirt, but find that the shorts are not long enough. I have lost over 100lbs and need longer compression shorts to hold the loose skin in place. I just add my under armour comp. shorts and I am good to go!

I've been wearing a running skirt from Atalanta (www.skirtgoddess.com) and just love it. The compression shorts under the Committment skirt have 7" inseams so no chafing, even on long runs, and they also keep all the jiggly bits from jiggling. Some of us need all the help we can get! They also come in lots of cute colors. They're not cheap but are made in the US, not some third-world sweatshop, and are exceedingly well-made so are worth every penny. Don't ever want to go back to shorts anymore.
