Decoding some shady green-speak

Everyone wants to be green these days, which of course is a good thing. But unfortunately for the unsuspecting consumer, green is being used somewhat duplictiously as a means of putting more green of a different kind into corporate coffers. Men's Health takes a closer look at what some of the green language on packaging really means. Here's what they found...
CFC-FREE: Sometimes still found on bug spray, shaving creams, oven cleaners, and many other spray products, this claim is completely pointless -- CFCs have been banned from aerosols since 1978.
ALL NATURAL: Perhaps one of the most ambiguous phrases used in green-speak. As the article states, whatever it actually means, it definitely doesn't guarantee that it's safe.
ORGANIC: Unless something is labeled as 100 percent organic, it may contain non-organic ingredients. And, with regard to organic grooming products, be careful. The article reports that a study found that almost half of these products contained an ingredient that caused cancer in rats.
MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS: Look for products with the label "post-consumer recycled content" instead, suggests the folks at Men's Health, as it's made of waste material that would otherwise end up clogging landfills. As for the "Made From Recycled Materials" phrase itself, this label frequently appears on products that are made from reused waste created during the manufacturing process.
We're all doing what we can to keep the planet healthy for ourselves and for future generations. Is it unfair that these efforts are being co-opted and exploited by Madison Avenue advertising gurus and marketing mavens? I think so. Am I surprised that it's happening? Not at all. It seems nothing is sacred when there's some money to be made. Your thoughts on the matter?
