It's true that every time a celebrity dies of heart disease it raises the issue in the consciousness of the public. But heart disease is the number one killer of all North Americans. And yet, the obesity rate continues to rise, especially in children, sedentary lifestyles are predominant, and the dietary choices people make are, generally speaking, really, really BAD!
According to the American Heart Association, nearly 1/2 million people die from heart disease every year and another 81 million are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
But is it any wonder? Look at the power of the massive and extremely effective marketing campaigns run by the makers of soft drinks, chips, candy bars, and all the highly processed foods (many of which purport to be health foods). Foods that contain huge amounts of hidden sugars and sodium, not to mention a myriad of chemicals.
These marketing campaigns work! That's why billions of dollars are spent every year getting us to consume this crap that is, literally, killing us!
We've tried to do our small part by creating a website devoted to the information and resources to lead visitors to a heart-healthy lifestyle (http://www.smart-heart-living.com) but in reality, this is but a tiny voice in the massive storm of really bad stuff out there!

Two beloved American celebrities have succumbed to heart disease before their time. The national response has been disappointment in a medical system that could let this happen. What could have been done differently to save the lives of both Tim and George, to avoid this fatal outcome?
