When bloody noses strike
My youngest guy Danny has been having bloody noses lately. It seems every day he gets out bed, he leaves behind a trail of blood on his bed sheets and pillowcase. And sometimes, at random points in the day, he comes running with his nose dripping blood. Worried that this is not just an occasional occurrence, I called Danny's pediatrician today. Here's what he said: Invest in some saline nose drops and dose him three to four times per day. And at night: Dab a Q-tip with Vaseline and rub into his nostrils to keep his nose lubricated while he sleeps.Danny's doctor blames the Florida heat for his bloody noses. He's dry, apparently, and his little capillaries are breaking and bleeding. That's the initial assessment, anyway. We report for an official office visit on Monday -- five-year-old check-up time -- and we'll get the whole scoop then, following an examination.
Got any wisdom on the bloody nose front? If so, please share.

Don't fret, Jackie- I suffered from bloody noses as a child as well. I finally grew out of it. I still get one occasionally, but not like I did as a child. I had one or two instances I had to go the emergency room b/c I had 'gushers', but I was fixed up and sent back home.
My uncle apparently had them as a child as well.
Does/did anyone else in your family have them??
My dad used to tear up a piece of brown paper bag and fold it up and put in btwn my upper lip and teeth. Craziest thing that it would work sometimes. Otherwise it was putting the pressure on the bridge of the nose. Now I just take kleenex and tear of bits, fold 'em up and shove up my nose until it stops. :/

That's very interesting. When I used to live in New York, I would get bloody noses ALL the time, I suspect due to the dryness in winter and heating systems. It wasn't until I moved to South Florida that my bloody noses completely stopped. I believe it's the humidity that did the trick.
Back in New York, using Nasalchrom religiously saved my poor dry nose, the generic is Cromolyn Sodium and shouldn't cost more than $11 at CVS. Very easy on the nose and does wonders.
Hope this helps!

I have this problem, being in Florida, and I'm an adult. It has to do with the dry/humid air. Every other day or so, I use saline nose spray (generic brand will do) just to keep nose lubricated. Its the saline in the spray that helps it.
