With all the recent food recalls, it's good to know where your food comes from. The best way? Buy direct at a Farmer's market. But can you navigate one successfully?
Mark's Daily Apple recently shared some great tips on shopping at a farmer's market:
- Ask questions. Why not? There's no way you'll be able to get a hold of the person who farmed your bananas in Honduras, so take advantage of proximity and be your own food detective. And who knows? Maybe you'll pick up some tips on how to grow your own product.
- Don't focus on price. You're paying for freshness and supporting your local community -- priceless!
- Don't assume you can only get produce there -- fresh dairy, meats and grains are most likely available too!
