Smoothie King Giveaway: $100 could be yours
You'd be hard pressed to find a Smoothie King smoothie that isn't both tasty and nutritious. Delicious flavors like Angel Food and Caribbean Way are packed with fresh fruit and nutrients, and you can actually make them even healthier. Simply ask for your smoothie to be "made skinny." "Skinny" smoothies have no turbinado (raw cane sugar) and contain 99 less calories and 23 less carbs than their counterparts. Smoothie King offers more than 30 smoothies under 300 calories after being rendered skinny. The Slim-N-Trim, for one, is a low-calorie treat used by many as part of an overall diet and training program geared toward slimming down.
Smoothie King also offers 50 smoothies with ingredients that meet customers' nutritional and dietary needs. There's The Hulk, with lots of calories and lots of nutrients, for chemotherapy patients who need a boost. There's The Gladiator for individuals who have undergone gastric bypass surgery and need essential vitamins and protein for recovery. And others can be formulated to jump-start energy and immunity; address stress relief, joint, and tissue repair; and build muscle.
Not all smoothies are created equal, say Smoothie King founders Steve and Cindy Kuhnau, who are proud to be the originators of the nutritional, fruit-based smoothie. Want to taste what they're talking about? Consider this:

I would like a chocolate/banana/peanut butter smoothie - however, with cocoa (probably dark!) and organic EVERYTHING! And yogurt for good consistency....
I love Smoothie King! I go there a lot - the orange/vanilla slim n' trim is my favorite!

I love healthy but I love flavor, so here's my contribution:
Strawberries, a touch of vanilla extract, nutmeg, peanut butter, some pine nuts, flax seeds, with some red onions, yes onions to add some subtle spice, guava, caramel and finally a cup of yogurt. Unusual sounding yes but what a blend!

Definitely have to go with a strawberry, vanilla protein blend, chocolate whey, and almonds. I get it almost every day!
I call it the "Neopolitan". You really taste every flavor. Perfect for after workouts - sugar from strawberry for quick replenishment, then protein for the longer replenishment once the sugar is used. :)

I am allergic to fructose (all fruit sugars and corn)-- so mine would have to be vanilla and almond.

Um, I looked at a few of the "Skinny" smoothies on their website and they all had turbinado (raw cane sugar) - I am also confused about the some of the "low carb" options - the ingredients list one or more of their protein powders, but I could not find the ingredients for those on their website. I *think* they are listing the carb count of the smoothie without fruit added, but it says you have a choice of fruit. A bit confusing.
In any case, I am a big fan of smoothies, when given the choice of practically any other dessert "food" available in America. I love that they are using cane sugar and honey - and I agree stevia would be an excellent additive but the FDA does not allow it added to drinks as of now :( But the low carb ones with fruit added sound perfect!
I actually had no idea about SmoothieKing, and I have found there are couple in my area - I can't wait to try!
I'l post my idea tomorrow, I need to sleep on it :) - thanks!

Marcie,
Actually, making a smoothie at Smoothie King a "skinny" means leaving out the turbinado, saving yourself 100 calories. This can be done to any of the smoothies with turbinado. I think you were looking at the Slim 'N Trim smoothies when you saw they had turbinado. Yes they do still have turbinado but it can be left out, making it a "skinny" Slim 'N Trim (as low as 3 Weight Watchers points for a 32 oz. Vanilla). And the great part is that these smoothies still taste sweet when you leave out the turbinado.
And the carbs listed on the Nutritional Chart, http://www.smoothieking.com/smoothies/nutritional-chart.php, is for all the ingredients, including the fruit. You can click on each smoothie on this chart and see more details about it including the ingredients. Your local Smoothie King store can give you more details on the protein blend as well. With almost 600 stores Nationwide and in Korea, there's more than likely at least one near you.
I have to say, growing up on the West Coast with the competitor's product, once I found this East Coast "King" I've never gone back. I'm glad they are finally growing on the West Coast as well. Their smoothies are so much better than any others I've ever tasted. Try one for yourself and you'll say the same thing!
