What's your motivation?
It's always interesting to learn why people exercise. For some, it's for more general health reasons; exercise, eat right, be fit, live a long and healthy life -- that sort of thing. But for others, the reasons can be far more specific. For some heavier people, being able to run around the yard and play with their kids seems to be a wonderfully common theme. Older men and women sometimes have a similar inspiration, only in their case it's their grandchildren they want to keep up with. For a good number of other folks, looking better is their primary motivation -- and there's no shame in that whatsoever. Being overly prideful is one thing, but taking care of yourself and wanting to be happy and confident in the way you look is just as good a reason as any.
For me, it's a combination of a few things. I like feeling healthy just as much as I like looking healthy. Plus, I hope to live to be 120 years old. A bit lofty of a goal, I know, but it's a goal nonetheless. What about you? I'm sure everyone would be interested to know what motivates you to run all those miles and lift all those weights day in and day out. Please feel free to share with the group :)

For me, working out is so much more than trying to be healthy... Up until recently, I was an overweight, unhealthy and very unhappy young woman. But my motivation for working out is that every time I complete a fabulous run, or complete another set of weights, I think back to 2 years ago when I couldn't do anything that I can do now, and I think about how far I've come in regards to my health. That definitely is my motivation!

It started for me when i saw a picture of my parents and my husband and I from a Christmas Party we went to this past year. The picture was pretty dark and I am super fair-skinned. Anyway...i was turned to the side and there in the center of the picture was my huge meaty white arm. It almost seemed kind of outlined by all the dark colors and background around it. AWFUL! After that i made a New Years resolution to go to the gym at least once a week. Well, almost immediately I was working out twice a week...now its up to 3 days a week and going strong! I've lost 15lbs and my body looks better than it did before i had my kids!!! I do a combination of interval training on the treadmill, a good core workout and strength training for my arms and upper body. Its awesome and now i look forward to every workout!
